London’s calling

It was the 16th of July and we were looking forward to the next four weeks in London. We had a safe flight and a warm welcome from Jamie. The rest of the day was a little stressful. We guess some of us were surprised how the things work in England.

The first day of school was pretty confusing but at the end of the day everybody was in the right class. During the next two weeks we got to learn many new people from all over the world. We had three classes a day at the Oxford International School in Greenwich. We hadn’t much free time because of our long ways home to our host families. Most of us had a good time with their host families since the beginning. But the truth is, there were some problems with the company Host International. The first two weeks went by really fast. One day we visited Brighton and the Camden Market – it was really cool. We do recommend visiting the Camden Market when you find some time.

The next two weeks we went to the Fashion Retail Academy in central London. Our teacher was Emma Martins. She’s a well-known bespoke tailor and her workplace is the world famous Savile Row. The first days at wok were pretty hard, because we got a lot of information and homework. That’s because she thought we had no clue about sewing. On Friday we went to visit Savile Row including Emma’s workplace which is Dege & Skinner. We think Savile Row was the most interesting experience for the most of us and it really shows why we want to become dressmakers. It was a huge honour to talk to tailors who worked for the Queen herself and for example Mick Jagger. The second part of our visit in London went by really fast too. We learned a lot. In our free time we got to explore London by ourselves. For example we got to visit Buckingham Palace, which was unbelievable. Another amazing night was our visit at the Novello Theatre to see the all-time favourite musical Mamma Mia.
On our last evening we all went out together with Jamie to eat pizza. Some of us finished the night next to London Eye with a lovely Pimm’s.
